Thompson Ton

This round all sides played 1 dayers due to the washout last round, and Ashley Thompson took advantage of his promotion from the 5ths to the 4ths to allow him to knock out a ton in quick time.

The 1st XI won the first Mo' Cup battle with Lysterfield in a tight game.  Batting first the boys were in trouble at 5/45, but a solid lower order helped them get to 182 from their full 45 overs.  Wilba Wild struck 3 6's and 2 4's on his way to his highest score in seniors of 51, run out off the last ball of the innings.  Travis Mulder 36 & Josh Gregory 41 also played a huge roll in building the total.  In response Lysterfield needed 8 to win in the last over, Simon Grasser took 2/1 (3/25) to get us home by 4 runs.  Travis Mulder also chipped in with the ball taking 2/25 from his 9.

The two's were ably led by Jeremy Mackinnon who opened the batting and scored a fast 50 including a sweeet six over mid-wicket.  Jason Buljubasic had little to worry about, he reverse flicked a ball for 3 past the keeper when his score was on just 1, he ended up just shy of a milestone scoring 48.  Corne Mostert showed he's capable of 2's cricket with a well composed 33 and was unlucky to hit a catch in the last over, but it was Adam Metherell who scored 33 from 20 balls who stole the show, he hit 5x4's and 1 large 6.  Matt van Lith was the pick of the bowlers taking 2/16 from 9 and Sean Reid although wicketless impressed with line and length finsihing with 0/29 from 7.  The 2's got home by 28 runs over Upper Gully.

The 3's will be doing push-ups at training after being bowled out for 38, Rhys Thomas 15* was the only player to make an impact.  Daine Vernon took the only wicket in reply.

The 4's average age was just about tripled over the previous game with the inclusion of Lindsay McKay, Chris Amos and Ashley Thompson.  The boys toiled in the field with little success in their 45 overs allowing South Belgrave to record a score of 5/162, Crazy Cottle taking 2/34 from 8.  Peter Webb 63, opened up and was soon part of the Ashley Thomson show.  Webby and Thommo put on 85 in about 12 overs, Thommo then combined with Bart Hoggett 2 for a partnership of 22 and Scott McInerney 6* for 45!  Thommo finished the day with 104* and firing on all cylinders.  The 4's got home losing only 3 wickets.

The fifths struggled once again to put a side on the park and desperatly need some committment from players if they want to play finals, they've proved if they have 11 they will win.  Mr Consistency, Baz Wild again fell short of 50 and perhaps needs to train to get him that little bit further?  Great efforts from juniors Scott David 23 and Ash Black 24 took the team to 121 from 38 overs.  Steve Mackinnon will probably never touch the ball again after returning 0/40 from 2 overs.  There was just too many gaps in the field and Rowville passed the score in the 27th over.

Make sure you get down to training this Thursday night, we're aiming for 40 blokes, the more numbers the better and it is a selection week, let your captain or Chris know if you can't make it or post in the Availability section of our Forum.
