Congratulations to the U/12's, U/13 1's, U/15 1's, 2nds and 1st XI for making the Grand Final this weekend, enjoy the experience, have fun playing your cricket and remain calm during key moments.
Seniors are having a selection meal for $5 on Thursday night followed by a presentation by performance coach Mark Dobson. Mark grew up in Scoresby and has coached many athletes including footballers, runners and swimmers and it will be good to hear from him on the eve of a Grand Final. ALL Knox Gardens Junior & Senior players are encouraged to attend from 7.45pm.
The 1st looked in trouble early with the score at 3/12 with run machine Wayne McInerney, Jarrod Butcher and Mark Dalton all back in the shed. Josh Gregory 20, and Jeremy MacKinnon 20 both got starts but both fell and the score was 5/68 and not looking brilliant. Enter Stage Left Adam Metherell who pumped out 73 runs in very quick time with 6 boundaries and 3 sixes (inc 1 super goal) and put on a handy 96 run partnership with Scott McInerney who also scored his highest score in the 1st XI with 43. Travis Mulder then combined with the tail to take the score to 239, an excellent recovery. In the field the boys struck early taking 2/15 before rain halted play on Sunday with the score at 2/52 from 30 overs. The boys came out on Reserve Day Monday and make light work of the game taking 8/46 with Adam Wild 3/32, Matt Young 3/33 and Simon Grasser 2/27 in the wickets.
Thirty Five Extras helped the 2's get to 175 on Day 1. Ben McLean 33 and Brett Morrison 20, put on an opening stand of 48 and Sean Reid was the rock of the side with 27 batting for the majority of the innings. The team bowled 3 overs at the end of Day 1 and took 1/4, then before the rain came on Day 2 had Auravale 7/61, and took just 23 minutes to take the last 3 wickets on Day 3 to end up winning by 101 runs. Daniel Adams took 3/17, Matt van Lith 3/15, Ryan Lepore 2/17 and Ross Dancey 2/22.
The 3's were bundled out but not without a fight... The boys posted 160 from 60 overs on an extremely slow Kings Park #2 oval with veterans Aaron Bailey 33 and Rhys Marget 31 leading the way, Nathan Montague posted 21 too. In reply Knoxfield were 6/162 with Simon Taylor taking 3/61 from 30 overs and Rhys Marget 2/24 from 12.
