3 good wins by the senior club over the weekend completed Round 9.
The 3rd XI moved their game at the last minute from a flooded Rowville #2 to Knox Gardens #2. Batting first the boys put on 8/179 from their 45 with Peter Webb opening up with 40, whilst Troy Cetrola hit 58. In the field Peter Webb again did well, with 2/16 and Nathan Montague knocked over 2 sets of poles with 2/13. Eildon Park were bowled out for 137 completing a 42 run victory for the home away side.
The 2nd's were bowling first at South Belgrave after losing the toss, and the boys kept the runs down early having South 60 from 30 overs. Some lusty hitting at the end got South to 9/117 from their 45. Ryan Lepore bowled superbly taking 4/24 whilst Daniel Adams was on a hat-trick in his first over and finished with 2/7 from 9! At 64 run opening stand between Brett Morrison 30 and Ben McLean 48 had the game setup at the drinks break, but a lapse in concentration from the batsmen saw us go from 2/92 to 7/113 and the game in the balance, but skipper Matt van Lith made light work of the required runs scoring 9* off only a few balls. 15 overs remained in the innings.
The 1st XI put the runs of the board at Knox Gardens #1 oval against a Sampath-less Mountain Gate. The boys hit 9/149 with Wayne McInerney leading the way again with 30 and Josh Gregory 27. Adam Wild backed up his 24 from last game with 17*, and Mark Dalton almost got a mention. Leg byes was extremely handy with 12. The boys were going to have to bowl well to protect this par score on the big but fast ground, and they did. Adam Wild was back to his fruggle best with 2/16 from 9, Daine Vernon 2/22 from 9 and Jarrod Butcher 2/26 from 8. Matt Young was the pick of the bowlers again though with 3/20 from 9. Matt's already clocked up 22 wickets this season and with 5 matches to go should easily surpass 30.
I haven't mentioned the dreamteam for a while, my team is comfortably on top, but Turbo and Nav aren't far behind, well lets face it, they are actually. I proclaim myself to be winner but we'll play out the rest of the season to see who will come second. Matt Young leads the much closer player ladder and it's still anyones game. Troy Cetrola was player of the week with 78 points. Everyone's backing the WMac to pull one out of the bag, he's in 18 sides, but yet to reward his skippers with a massive score.
