Knox Gardens and Eildon Park on Wednesday 18th February combined in a joint effort to raise money for the people of Victoria affected by the recent bushfires in the form of a Twenty20 game at Knox Gardens Reserve.
Knox Gardens batted first and were in early trouble at 3/6 in the 3rd over however the reliable middle & lower order managed to get the side to a respectable 143 with Jarrod Butcher scoring 29. Eildon Park jumped out of the blocks with 2/90 after 10 overs with Ben Morris scoring 51. With the score at 5/135 with 4 overs to go Josh Dowling decided to retire and opened up the door, Knox Gardens snaring 5/8 to take the game to a decider... the 'bowl off'. After six deliveries from each side the score was Knox Gardens 0 - Eildon Park 1, Eildon Park taking the inaugural Twenty20 charity cup between the two sides.
Thanks must go to the organisers of the event Simon Wilkinson, Aaron Bailey & Mark Dalton from Knox Gardens. Warren Griffen and the boys from Eildon Park. A huge thanks to Asko who donated a great washing machine as the raffle prize, thanks to the sponsors who donated the food, Hewy's Bakehouse in Scoresby & Boococks Meats in Wantirna. Also thanks to those who manned the BBQ, Canteen & Bar and to those who donated their hard-earned.
The match raised $4500 to be donated to the Red Cross.
