Looks to be a strong team with players picked in positions they played throughout the season. In total 3459 runs, 130 wickets, 62 catches, 16 run outs and 3 stumpings. Average age in this team is 23.3 with 7 players playing in the 2nd XI premiership! Here is the team: Lachie
Stuckey: Was given the opportunity to open the batting this season in the 2’s and
made it count plundering 418 runs at an average of 32.15, including four 50’s
which secured him a 1st XI debut in the last game of the season. Contributed
26 in the Semi Final and was a tad unlucky to be dismissed in the Grand Final…..
Another impressive year by the pencil moustache and hopefully he is able to
convert those 50’s into big match winning 100’s in 18/19.
Andrew
Potts: The 3’s skipper had a ripper year with 431 @33.15 that which included two
50’s and a high score of 76. Also included the Division 4 batting award which
he loves! He also won the most dot balls faced award! (We can only assume) Let’s
see if the Pott can get that one day player of the year award which he so
desperately craves.
Gerard
Jongen: Announced as the 3’s Vice-Captain at the start of the season but never
ended up playing there as he was selected in the 2’s from round 1 where his pre-Christmas
form was very crisp hitting two 50’s. After the break Gez struggled for his
best form due to running himself out twice but finished the year of brilliantly
with a season high 70 not out in the GF to get the 2’s over the line.
Jarrod
Butcher (c): In what was his last season as 1’s captain, Butch almost carried
the team batting line up with some skippers knocks throughout the season. The
standout being 143* chasing 299 against Johnson Park. His 463 runs @52 also
including two 50’s which will surely see his odds of taking home club champion shorten.
Adam
Wylde (wk): Struggled early on in the season, still trying to recover from a
broken leg his sustained in the footy season. Finally ‘found his feet’ with a
70 in the 3’s and then backing that up with 132* the following week in one of
the best performances for the season. In his promotion to the 2’s he
contributed each week with a few 30’s and a 50 to help get the 6 points each
week. His return of 413@51.63 is a decent effort with only one leg! Kept
brilliantly also, improving every game which saw him mitt 8 catches in the
finals series!
Hayden
Morrison: A standout season from the 17 year old son of a club gun! Hit his
first ever ton smashing an incredible 183 not out in the 3’s before getting the
promotion to the 2’s. Hit a massive 570 runs which included another ton this
time in the 2’s. Whacked 2 more 50’s and a very mature 49 not out in the Semi
Final. One of the most improved players at the club which is no surprise with
all the effort he puts in during the season.
Dylan
Wylde: The man who never rocked up on time unless his juniors were at the same
ground, and even then, he wasn’t ready for the warm up! Nevertheless 401 runs
@40.10 suggests Dyl had a rather decent season with a highest score of 107* and
then an almost match winning 87 the following week. Although the thing he is
most happy with is getting a catch in the 2’s Grand Final which was his only
statistic in the finals as he wasn’t required with the bat both games. Played
a very important role coming in which usually not many overs to go but always
got on with it. Handy in the field also saving thousands of runs!
Mitch
Gregory: Another 2’s player in the TOTY. The Mexican had a brilliant all-round
year scoring 244 runs with a high score of 78 and 24 wickets which included a
6fa and a Michelle 5fa in the Grand Final. Very consistent all season with the
ball continually bowling marathon spells in the searing heat. A member of the
team of the week on numerous occasions and is a Rhys Marget Medal favourite, or
so he keeps telling us.
Adam
Metherell: Back from a stint on turf Crystal was ultra-consistent in the 1’s from
round one taking 3 wickets in each of his first three games. A tad unlucky not
to make the league team of the year being amongst the top 5 wicket takers for
the season but will be super excited to be placed in this elite list. Took 24
wickets @18 and six times took 3 wickets or more in a game. Enjoyed running
himself out with the stick when not taking poles.
Nixon
Adcock: A cricket lover of the highest order Nixon can never get enough. Took
20 wickets @20 in the 3’s despite the fact he forgot how to spin the ball halfway
through the season. A career best 5/34 in round 5 against Monbulk his best
performance. Led the way for the 3’s with the pill and will be looking to push
up the grades next season with a monster pre season!
Drew
Withers: Ahh Drew. The standout bowler at the club this season compiling 33
wickets @bugger all. The new ball king swung the ball like a wizard all season
taking early wickets in all games (except the Grand Final) to get the team off
to a flyer. Not a bad effort from a man who only has one spell in him! Two bags
of 5 for the season and ten times taking multiple wickets in an innings.
Rightly number eleven in the order after 6 runs for the season.
12th
Man
Greg Crook:
Took on the role as skipper of the 4’s this season and led from the front with
the ball taking 24 wickets to be the leading wicket taking in Division 6. No
really big hauls as we have become accustomed to from the Crookie Monster but a
very consistent season narrowly missing out on selection in the starting 11
(along with around 10 others!)
