| Massive first week to start the year for our 1st and 2nd XI's with their T/20's being played. Mixed results but some outstanding contributions from both teams. Here is this week's team: Lachie Stuckey:
It seems every time he gets a hit we see his name appear in the team. The hard
hitting young gun continues to impress and hitting 58 runs from 38 balls it
wasn’t a hard decision to pick him at the top of the order. Niraj DeSilva: An
up and down season so far for the supremely talented Niraj. Has blossomed with
his new role at the top of the order but will be frustrated to not cash in on a
number of starts so far this season. Batting second he hit a better than run a
ball 37 which help set the 1’s up for chase. Jarrod Butcher:
Doing a fantastic job leading by example so far for the 1st XI.
Shared in a fantastic partnership with Niraj and made batting look ridiculously
easy at times. Has been super consistent passing the 300 run mark already. Ben McLean: After
being overlooked for the 2nd XI T/20 initially Ben wound back the
clock with a superb display of cow corner hitting with a few deft touches
thrown in also. Remained not out on 51 off just 35 deliveries to help set up
win. He would have been quick to calculate his impressive strike rate of 145.7. Josh Wylde: Just
as he did in the first T/20 Josh controlled things from the moment he strode to
the crease. Rotated the strike brilliantly in his near hundred run partnership
with Ben before asking to bat in the cap which ultimately contributed to his
downfall on 39, probably. Josh Gregory: Did
everything he could to drag the 1st XI across the line hitting the
ball hard and made the fielders unsure with his trademark running between the wickets.
Will be disappointed with the result but without the great man we would have
come up well short. Enjoyed running around in the field for a change also
collecting a great run out. Scott McInerney:
Probably unaccustomed to being this far down the order but after another
unfortunate early dismissal he is in the team for his impressive seam bowling.
Has impressed with the ball after a few injuries concerns earlier in the
season. Picked up 2/26 off his 4 overs to help restrict the opposition to a total that was within reach. Dylan Wylde: Got
the call up to the 2nd XI after attending his first and we can only
assume last training session for the season. The pint sized, big hitting, quick
moving and always entertaining cricketer is well suited to the shortest form of
the game. Only got to face 5 balls but managed 13 runs then took a wicket and
was electric in the field all day. Navinder Singh: A
very versatile member of the 1st XI being a fantastic two day
batsman and a great death bowler, so it’s no surprise he’s in the team for his
drifting missile like deliveries. Opened the bowling and was very tidy then
performed extremely well under immense pressure in 2 super overs to give us
every chance of winning the game. Sean Reid:
Recently quoted as saying “I hate T/20’s and they are ruining the game of
cricket” or words to that effect, Sean was not really involved in the 2’s game
at all. Then all of a sudden with the game on the line the skipper threw him
the ball and he delivered first ball with a wicket, backed it up with another
and incredibly threw down the stumps from near the boundary for a run-out to
turn the game around and get the side a comfortable 80 run win. Drew Withers:
Squeezed out of a strong 1st XI side Drew responded extremely well
bamboozling the opposition with changes of pace and very accurate bowling
taking 2/13 off 4 overs. Remarkably avoided the ball all day in the field to
end up with no disposals but was only needed to bowl and he was the pick of the
bowlers for the round. 12th Man  |
