Round 8 and the rain is back?

We might see some rain this Saturday, but it was raining cricket balls at St Joesphs in the 2nd XI's game before christmas.

The 2's compiled a massive score of 362 against St Johns Tecoma.  Rhys Marget compiled 109 including 5 maximums, whilst Adam Metherell (82) and Matt Young (61*) scored a 100 run partnership off 50 balls.  Dylan Wylde 26 and Brett Morrison 27 also posted scores worth mentioning, the rest didn't.  Batting first and compiling that sort of score meant that the team was in a fairly good position in that game, and the bowlers were able to restrict St Johns to 136 from 58 overs.  Skipper Matt van Lith took 3/13 and Matt Young also chimed in with 3/16, an all round great game from him. Ryan Lepore 2/34 and Ash Hawkes 2/12 also bowled well.

The 1's batted first at home against Lysterfield.  The outfield was slow and the team posted just 164 from 75.2 overs.  Wayne McInerney again top scored with 38, Travis Mulder belted 29 and Sean Reid nibbled away for 20.  At one stage after Lysterfield reached 1/107, it looked as though 167 wasn't going to be enough, but Adam Wild 4/34 and Daine Vernon 4/47 rattled through the order taking 9/37 and winning the game by 20 odd runs.

The 3's belted Monbulk at the Monbulk Secondary College ground.  Batting first that 3's built a good score of 6/263, with virtually everyone contributing, Peter Webb 48, Mitch Gregory 30, Troy Cetrola 50, Simon Taylor 35 and Nathan Montague 51*, it was a great effort for the team to also bat out the 75 overs.  Monty finished a great game by taking 3/7 and a runout.  Ever reliable Blake Lines took 4/28.

The 4's had a exciting 1 run win, in a side where the average age was about 17 (bumped up by Ian Jongen and Jason Buljubasic).  They batted first and scored 112 from 38 overs, with Jason Buljuasic getting 37 and Brad Martin 15.  The side bowled well to defend the score with Anthony Howes taking 2/22, Ian Jongen 2/8 and Brad Martin 2/9.

In the second week the side retained just 1 player from the week before!  We bowled first and restricted a good SE Wanderers side to 8/123.  Ash Thompson took 3/16 and Adrian Zandt 2/18.  Things were looking good in the run chase with Ash Thompson hitting 34 and Simon Wilkinson 25, but a HatTrick to the opposition left the run chase in tatters and we fell 6 runs shy.

Theres only 2 games this Saturday, so if your not playing then try to get down to the club or Dobsons Park on Dorset road and support the club.

Good Luck!
