In the re-fixtured Round because of the Grand Final, the Falcons got off to a flyer with wins in the 1's & 2's.
The freshly capped 1's got sent in, South Belgrave trying to exploit some rust in the batting, but there was none. Wayne McInerney 39, and Mark Dalton got the side off to a solid start with 33 on the board before Mark Dalton snicked one. Super Coach Jeremey Mackinnon still recovering from having a small block of flats fall across his arm, was in superb touch with 33 and Josh Gregory ran out of time to post a half century, but got 30* and the team to 7-179 from 45. Jarrod Butcher also chimed in with 20. When it was time to hit the field it was Matt Young 4/47 and Ross Dancey who did all the damage. Skipper Adam Wild picked up 1/10 from his 9 overs, Souths bats too afraid to stick bat in front of the ball whilst Wilba was bowling. South were bowled out for 151 from 44.5. [Scorecard]
The 2's were asked to have a stint in the field first against Mountain Gate. Daine Vernon ravaged the Gators batting line-up with 5 of the best for 14 from 8 overs. New skipper Matt van Lith also snapped up 3/22 from 7.1. Scott McInerney was tidy with 4 runs from his 5 overs. The Gators set the bait at 105, probably 20 runs more than the side had hoped. After a reasonable opening stand of 23 the side was soon in trouble at 4-28 and 5-48. But Mitch Gregory 16* and Scott McInerney 21 fought off the gators and took the score to 6-84. The Adam Metherell wrapped up the innings with a cameo 17*. The side got to 6-107 from 37 on the slow HV Jones reserve. [Scorecard]
So a garden party it was on Saturday night.
Let's have a good week on the track and make it 5 from 5 this weekend.
