The first 4 XI's play in home semi-finals this Saturday after an outstanding home & away season. A quick note on the season so far in seniors.
The 5ths finished off their season with a fine effort against Johnson Park, they were set a target of 230 runs by JP with Anthony Howes taking 2/43 & Mark Hancock taking 2/38. David Hancock 36 & Steve Mackinnon got the team off to a great start and Ash Hawkes continued his good work with 30. By far the MVP was Adrian Kennedy with 44 and 2/13. The 4's assured top spot with an easy 10 wicket win over Mountain Gate. Greg Crook 3/21 and Rob 'Crazy' Cottle 3/7 were the destroyers, whilst Matt van Lith took 2/19 and will be sucking on Strawberry Daiquiri's during the finals campaign. The 99 run chase was a doddle for the experienced pair of John Mills 56* and Peter Webb 35*, 0/106 from 21 overs.
The 3's were pantsed by Auravale with Rob Howes 50, and Aaron Bailey 23 the only 2 players that used the bat. Dismissed for 127, Auravale had little trouble chasing the total with Daine Vernon zinging them past the batsmans ears with 2/23.
The 2's stole a tight game against Eildon Park by 1 run. Batting first the 2's posted 4/171 from 45 with Nav Singh hitting 56* and Adam Metherell smashing 47* from fewer than 20 balls. Eildon Park started slowly and struggled against Ian Jongen 2/20 and Simon Wilkinson 2/23 but accelerated their scoring whilst facing Jason Buljubasic who got taken for 9 an over but got 3 cructial wickets at the end, including a great caught and bowled. With 2 balls to go Eildon Park needed 2 runs to win with 1 wicket in hand and whilst trying to sneak a bye the non-striker was runout.
The 1's were outplayed by South Belgrave and registered their first loss for the season. South Belgrave posted 214 batting first with Braet Adams taking 3/50, Adam Wild 2/17, Simon Grasser 2/28 and Matt Young 2/58! Josh Phillips & Sampath Hettiarchchige both got starts with 23 and the side were dismissed for 105. Although the side could not complete it's goals of an undfeated season, they side maintain clear advantage on top spot and will host a semi on the best oval in the comp.
Rhys Marget was an absolute shoe-in to win the dream team competition, but somehow choked and Wilba Walk!!!ed all over him to take top spot. For the first time this season, the "2nd XI" took the chocolates with 367 points for the round, the 4's were up there too with 347. No changes in the player ladder, with Ash Thompson shortening his lead by a few, but still has plenty to play with. We'll play at least 1 more round because we have 4 sides playing semi's, sorry Wilba your not home yet.
Remember to sell you raffle books and get the money back this Thursday night, the draw is Saturday night and the prizes are pretty bloody good!
