Can the 5th's knock off Auravale this week? Don't forget to update your Dream Team.
Last weekend the 5ths easily accounted for their opposition, St Johns Tecoma. Batting first St Johns managed just 84 from 27 overs, Daniel Adams taking 4/20, and new dad Wilko talking 3/22. Tristan Wilkinson led with the bat making 49* from 12.1 overs and the boys lost just 1 wicket, a nice percentage builder.
The 4ths were challenged with 231 from 40 overs by Johnson Park (Nathan Montague 3/52, David Thomas 3/54), and were in trouble early, Steve Aguis and Nathan Montague both failing to trouble the scorer. Old timers Chris Amos and Ray Phillips both knocked up flawless 50's though and restored some respect to Knox Gardens total of 148 from 35 overs.
The 3rds bowled first on a hot day and restricted Upwey to 178 with Luke Perryman starring with 4/54 and Daniel Williams taking 3/29. At 3/8 Knox Gardens looked in trouble, but Bart Hoggett and Zane Thomas chimed in for a solid 52 run partnership at a key time. When Bart departed for 19, Crazy Rob Cottle kept the runs flowing and at the end of play on Day 1 the guys need 43 runs to win on first innings. Zane Thomas has a chance to convert his 80* into a big hundred too, best of luck Zane.
The 2nd XI attacked with the bat and posted 8/304 from 80 overs and will fight hard to defend it this weekend with a strong bowling line up. Richie bling bling opened the batting, moving up 11 positions in the order and compiled a brilliant 40. The skipper helped himself to another great score of 64 and Ian Jongen has made his best score this season with 69*. Matt van Lith 32, Aaron Bailey 24 and Sean Ried 22 made contributions to the great total. Jason Buljubasic and Sean Reid also had a partnership of 96.
The 1st XI elected to bowl and Travis Mulder took the first 5 wickets himself, a great spell of bowling from the skipper, following up from a similar spell vs Upwey. Wilba chipped in with his usual 4fer, taking the last 2 wickets of the innings from the last 2 balls to be on a hatty in the case of a 2nd innings. South Belgrave ended up making 180 and had Knox Gardens 4/10 after just a few overs, however Josh Phillips and Josh Gregory did a fantastic job to move the team along to 4/38 by the end of play and giving the 1's a chance next weekend.
