Veterans Division 1 Team Withdrawn
Posted by Ben McLean on Monday, 15 Oct 2007 at 8:46pm
Due to weight of lost players in this side and by virtue of the difficulty in getting regular availability of all Vets players, Knox Gardens has withdrawn from Veterans Division 1.

The flow on effect of this decision is that the Club will NOW have 2 Teams playing in Div 3 & Div 4 . These 2 Teams will be Capt by Div 3 - Lee Metherell & Div 4 Lindsay McKay. ( Ray B , I apologise that we have overlooked you but again in balancing out workload we appreciate that you have an important role to play in U/11 with Webby in grooming our future players)

I have had an 1/2 hr conversation with Peter Fahy and whilst he is very accepting of our need to withdraw our Div 1 side which now creates a Bye he will not move our remaining 2 Teams into Div 2 & Div 3. This means that we will as a consequence have 2 strong Teams and will "Cop friendly stick" for STACKING !! There is no other way around this.

From here David Thomas , Lee Metherell & myself will group existing registered & confirmed players into 2 squads. We will then consult with Lindsay to see if any changes are needed. Once completed we will list on our Website www.knoxgardenscc.com.au under Veterans section the 2 squads and all game details.

Each Round the 2 Captains will organise 13 players to play with an Emergency on standby. Captains will now accept the responsibility for Bowling at least 8 guys a game where possible and rotating Batting orders during the Season to maximise participation. We will also field all 13 each game so that every 6 overs we rotate guys on & off for a rest. Each Home game 3 players ( in rotation so we get 1 turn each ) will be Nominated to cook the BBQ, run the Bar & Host the Visitors - so that our Social standards are the BEST in the comp. Having 2 Teams means that occasionally someone might get rested and when Finals come the Capt's will have the thankless task of picking the Best Team.

Vets Fees are $60 & $10 a game. This must be paid next week as the New Shirts will be handed out for next game. Please help us in staying Financial.

FUTURE DRAW : When we have 2 home games, we'll have a Double Header at Llewellyn. Single games will be at Knox 2. The draw is GREAT for us Socially as we have 3 Double Headers at Llewellyn and only 2 single home games @ Knox 2 with 3 Rounds where both Teams are away together.

Should we do well this Year and can rekindle Parent interest and get more players for 2008/09 we will then look at once again having 3 Teams and being in Div 2, 3 & 4. I ask for all players support with this and ask for people to maximise their availability to ease the burden on LEE & LINDSAY.

Vets cricket is meant to be FUN and we will not get a lot out of it if the Teams play short week after week. If any current Vets player as a consequence of this would prefer to play at another club OR play Saturday Senior cricket so they can play more regularly we will support either perspective.

Thank you for your support.
