Gez's Weekend Whispers Round 4

1st XI

The 1s will be looking to make amends for last week’s loss as they take on the winless Upper Gully at King’s Park in a T20. The selectors have made club history this weekend by opting for a bowling attack featuring a quartet of finger spinners, with a forecast of dip and rip expected from 4pm onwards on Saturday afternoon. Pete Dunlop will be hoping to claim bragging rights against one of his many former sides this weekend and continue his good form following an erotic 69 against the Panthers in round 3. Daine Vernon will be battling intense withdrawal symptoms from his beloved 2s as he lines up in Norm Neeves for the first time this year, while Matt Young has also propelled himself into the firsts after catching the eye of the selectors with dabbing form which was too good to refuse. An important game for the 1st XI as a win will cement a top 4 spot before transitioning to red ball cricket next week.

2nd XI

Following a successful summit of Mount Dandenong to secure victory against Olinda, the 2s will be looking to penetrate the top 4 with a win against the Rowville Hawks in a twilight fixture at Seebeck Oval. An exciting clash beckons between these two birds of prey who have 2 wins apiece to date, with Prue Withers set to lead the team on Saturday following a plethora of changes. The enduring Rhys Marget has earnt himself a promotion subsequent to his impeccable white ball form to commence the year, finding the boundary with a frequency rivalled only by the President sharing the INXSIVE gig on social media. Young Bailey Deckert has also been promoted for his first game in the 2s, as veteran Travis Mulder has taken the weekend off in search of a new washing machine. This follows an unfortunate oversight in the laundry last week which left the Fox hand-washing his playing shirt in the Olinda away rooms just minutes before the first ball was delivered. Shrewd veteran Adam Wild will also bolster the 2s bowling attack and will be keen to leave the Rowville scorecard in a state which is not dissimilar to that of his depiction which hangs from the clubroom walls. A win here will see the 2s positioned nicely inside the top 4 at 3-1.

3rd XI

After comfortably accounting for Olinda in a 7-wicket victory last weekend, the 3s will be keen to progress their pristine record to 4-0 as they precede the 2s at Seebeck Oval against Rowville.  Ashley Thompson is an imposing addition to the 3s batting order, the South African slogger will be hoping to harness his striking ability and produce a big score at the top of the order for the team. Dosmanstagram Morrison will be rueing a missed opportunity for the Jets on Thursday night, his golden globe left him seeing red as he returns to the 3s after a brief stint in DeCoite. Moving on to the bowling, the 3s attack experienced the full range of emotions last week, as the unassuming Spencer Stuckey achieved a feat most bowlers can only dream of, a classy hat-trick against the Bloods to dismantle their line-up and return a handy 4/11. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the erratic Anthony ‘sundries’ Jongen occupied plenty of real estate in the scorebook with an 18 ball over which left the scorers’ ink reserves running low. Good luck to the 3s this week.
