5th XI captain Simon Wilkinson has announced that his dominant side are certain premiers. The announcement came shortly before the 5ths won their 8th game in a row, and probably lining up a home Semi against St.Johns next week. Simon's had a great year at the club, he won the $2,500 cash draw, came second in the recent social function won the Dream Team "Teams" competition and finished a very close 2nd in the Dream Team "Players" competition, making a late charge in the last 2 rounds. He's also done well with the bat, making 317 runs at a whopping 158.5 and taking 15 wickets. Not to mention he became a father a few weeks ago, and just turned 30!
The 3rds will also play on into the finals following a loss to top side Eildon Park. That loss will probably move them down to third place on the ladder, and they'll play an away Semi-Final most likely against The Basin.
The 5ths once again dished out a pumping, this time to St Johns Tecoma, batting first they put their highest score of the season of 7/283 from their 40 overs, once again more than 7 an over. Top contributors were Daniel MacKinnon with 50*, Simon Wilkinson 51*, Ray Wright 50* and Dale Roper with 43. The 5ths failed to bowl out St Johns, but restricted them to 7/166 from their 40 overs, best bowling from Scott Walker 2/28 and Michael Hoare 2/29.
The 4ths finished with a loss against Eildon Park, but Bart Hoggett 50*, and Steve Mackinnon 34 both put their hands up for finals berths in the total of 9/168 chasing Eildon Parks 6/259. Next season the 4ths will need to work a lot harder to control their extras, 50 extras including 29 wides made the total alot harder to get. Nathan Montague also took 2/45 from 7 overs.
The 3rds ended the home and away season with a loss, however are still strongly placed for the finals. They have a very good side and can win the flag with the side they have. John Mills hit a solid 90, Zane Thomas 45 and Robs Howes 30 in their total of 223. It proved to not be enough with Eildon Park passing their score with just 2 wickets in hand. Blake Lines took 3/45 and Rhys Thomas 3/28.
The 2nds batted first and scored 179 at Menzies Creek, with Matt van Lith scoring 56 and Sean Reid hammering 30 runs. But the bowlers took some stick on Day 2 when Belgrave passed the score 2 wickets down in just 39 overs. Godbee-Lingarde from Belgrave score a very fast 95, including some massive 6's, hitting his own car with 1 ball.
The 1st XI had an emphatic win over Knoxfield scoring a 1st XI club record of 427 runs. Travis won the toss and sent Knoxfield in to bat, it was a good move, with Adam Wild taking 6/32, Matt Young 2/14 and Travis Mulder 2/30. Knoxfield managed just 79. After a shakey start of 3/17, Aaron Bailey(72) and Jarrod Butcher(62) led the side to first innings victory on Day 1. Josh Gregory capitalised on the situation on Day 2 hitting his first ton and remaining not out in the process, he ended up with 110*. Josh got great support from Jarrod Thorpe (63) and Matt Young (27), and they took the score to all out 427 at tea. After tea Knoxfield batted again, and took the long handle to Travis 0/14 from 1 and Thorpy 1/38 from 4, they made 7/202 and were 2 wickets short of outright loss at the end of play. Jarrod Butcher took 2/43, and Josh Gregory followed up his batting by getting 3 stumpings with the gloves.
U/13 1's and U/15s will both be playing finals too this weekend, so pop in and give them some support if you can. Run-machine Rob Howes hit another 90-odd this week and is taking great form into the finals.
The Dream team has finished, and Simon Wilkinson's "Demons in da sack" took out 1st place by around 300 points from Wilba's team "Draw nicks at will". Wilba won the Players section though scoring 551 points for the season. Best player for Round 11 was Simon Wilkinson with 154 points, just pipping Josh Gregory by 4 points. Well done to everyone who played in the comp, it was great fun running it and caused a real buzz around the club every week.
Jeremy Mackinnon is organising a 20/20 game this Saturday morning begining at 9.30am, so if your not playing finals come on down and enjoy an end of season slog fest. Cost is $5 and you'll get a barbie and a beer after the game. Following that we what to get some huge support behind the 3rds and 5ths players.
Good luck to all finals players.
